Heading off on a road trip? Here's a few things you should pack in a duffel bag and always have in the trunk of your car
Jumper Leads - a common sense item that could also help a stranger in distress.
Water - in a 4 litre glass bottle or tin. Don't leave water in your car in plastic and make sure you keep it fresh.
Flashlight - problems on the road don't always happen in the bright light of day.
Reflector - most cars come with these, but if not, and you're over a hill or around a bend you want to give on-coming traffic fair warning.
Tyre inflater (pump), preferably that plugs into your cigarette lighter. If you have an older car, most flat tyres are the result of a nail or screw in the street. A pump can get you to a petrol station or closest town.
First-aid kit - from a simple injury at a soccer game to worse, it's always good to have some first-aid supplies on hand.
Small tool-kit or multi-tool - car keys make lousy screwdrivers. It's nice to have the real thing on hand.
Blanket - an unplanned night in the car is no fun. Especially if it's cold outside.
Tow rope - sure I can pull you out. Got a rope?
Duct tape - every man's best friend. Fixes everything! And makes for a good bandage in case you forgot that first-aid kit.
